Abolish The Religious Discrimination Bill #killthebill

The rights of LGBTQIA+ people in Australia to healthcare, education, employment and safety will be compromised by this proposed legislation.

The second draft of the Religious Freedom Bill 2019 was ironically released by Attorney-General Christian Porter & Prime Minister Scott Morrison on International Human Rights Day. This proposed legislation contravenes human rights, according to the Australian Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International Australia as well as independent organisations.

This proposed legislation will override current State and Federal laws that protect LGBTQIA+ people in Australia.  It will allow people who discriminate against and vilify LGBTQIA+ people to get away with it on 'grounds of religious belief' so long as it is not 'violent'. It will affect people in workplaces, hospitals and medical services, schools and public life.

This Bill does not protect all people of faith, and so it cannot represent true religious freedom. Prof. Gillian Triggs, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission has endorsed an Australian Human Rights Act instead. Please sign to protect LGBTQIA+ people in Australia.

To Attorney-General Porter, Australian Law Reform Commission, Australian Human Rights Commission:

I write to you regarding the proposed Religious Discrimination Bill 2019.

This Bill contravenes existing protections for LGBTQIA+ people in Australia, as well as women, people with disabilities, divorcees and people of marginalised faith.

We need an Australian Human Rights Act which protects everyone in Australia from discrimination and vilification. Please abolish the Religious Discrimination Bill 2019 and engage meaningful human rights action.
